Blue Sox Kids Club ends on a high!

Leicester Blue Sox wrapped up its 2024 Kids Baseball Club today after a successful run over the past four weekends during the school summer holidays.

Over 25 boys and girls took their first steps into baseball, learning the fundamentals of the game through throwing and catching, batting and base running, across two age-groups.

The programme concluded today with an exciting combined age group community game, where the kids showcased their new skills during five super innings of great baseball. The smiles on their faces and the energy on the field were proof that they had a blast!

The road to this finale wasn't without its challenges. Last Saturday the club faced a major setback when our entire supply of youth baseball bats were stolen due to a break-in to our coach's car. However, the response from our club members and parents of our baseball kids was nothing short of remarkable. Through the generosity of our community, we were able to crowdfund enough money to replace the stolen bats, ensuring the kids could enjoy today's game to the fullest.

Reflecting on the programme, Blue Sox Kids Coach Matt Crawshaw said "I'm incredibly proud of everyone involved in making this programme a success. The resilience and support shown by our club members, parents and the wider community has been amazing. The kids have learned so much, and the enthusiasm they've shown has been fantastic. It has been a pleasure watching them grow their love for the game".

The Blue Sox wish to extend our overwhelming thanks to Tiffney Townsend who has been the driving force behind all of our activities in the village of Quorn. We are also grateful to the Quorn Parish Council, who kindly allowed us to use the Stafford Orchard field this summer.

Our club previously ran two community events at Stafford Orchard in 2022 and 2024, which have been instrumental in building strong ties with the local community. The success of these events has sparked incredible interest in expanding our baseball offering to the kids in the village.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce plans to expand the Blue Sox Kids Programme in Quorn next season. We will be running a full season of baseball during May and June 2025, followed by another school summer holiday club in August.

We can't wait to see even more children in Quorn and from the surrounding areas joining in and experiencing the joy of baseball next season.

Finally, a big shout out to our club sponsors Deltech and Envy who continue to provide generous support of our community projects to get more people playing baseball in Leicestershire.
