It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of our former player, coach and team manager Alan Edgington, who tragically suffered a cardiac arrest this month.

Alan joined the Leicester Blue Sox in 2010 and quickly became an integral part of our club. A natural leader and deeply empathetic individual, he was not only a talented team player but also a dedicated coach and mentor. His impact was felt across all levels of the club, from leading adult training sessions to assisting our Blue Sox Junior Pony team in their successful Youth Baseball Championship campaigns between 2013 and 2016. During this time, he also managed our adult second team before taking charge of the first team in 2016, guiding them to an unforgettable Double-A National Baseball Championship victory in 2017, our first-ever title at this level.

In 2018, Alan stepped away from the Blue Sox to focus on family life, but his passion for the sport never wavered. He later became a key figure at Wolverhampton Wolves , continuing to inspire players with his knowledge, kindness, and unwavering sportsmanship.

Alan had a rare ability to connect with everyone he met on the baseball diamond. His mild manner and genuine warmth left a lasting impression on players, coaches, and opponents alike. His passing is an immense loss, and the entire Blue Sox Nation is devastated on hearing the news of his passing.

Our thoughts, love, and deepest condolences go out to his wife, Katy, his children, and his family at this incredibly difficult time.

We stand together with our friends at Wolverhampton Wolves and the wider British baseball community in mourning the loss of an extraordinary gent who dedicated so much of his time to the game and to those who played it.

To honor Alan’s memory, we have opened a Book of Condolences for the British baseball community to share their thoughts, memories, and tributes. Your can share your memories of Alan here:

Rest in peace, Alan. You will always be a part of the Blue Sox family. 💔
